Project Introduction
Packy is an AI-powered travel planning app designed to simplify the chaos of trip planning by bringing together the best of TripAdvisor, Google Maps, spreadsheets, and Dropbox into one seamless platform. With features like itinerary building, attraction suggestions, packing lists, document storage, and offline access, Packy is primed to become a one-stop travel companion for Australian explorers.
With the public launch just around the corner, our immediate focus is on sharpening the user experience to reflect the sophistication of Packy’s AI-driven capabilities. Beta testing revealed that while the app has strong potential, critical user experience gaps could hinder engagement at launch. This rapid intervention aims to enhance discoverability, increase user confidence, and ensure that the value of Packy's unique features is instantly understood and effortlessly accessed.
Key Concerns Identified During Discovery:
Lack of Feature Visibility & Discoverability
Beta users overlooked essential features like document uploads and destination insights due to conventional UI patterns that didn’t highlight Packy’s differentiators. We need to ensure users intuitively know how to unlock the app’s full value from the moment they land in the interface.Low value perception
Despite the AI under the hood, early users described the experience as "basic," pointing to a disconnect between Packy’s smart backend and its current interface design. The app’s intelligent planning engine wasn’t coming through in the experience, making Packy seem like just another itinerary tool rather than a smart, adaptive assistant. We must elevate the perceived sophistication of the app to match its underlying intelligence and instill user confidence in its capabilities.Concerns Around Backend Impact
The team is understandably anxious that improving UX will require significant backend refactoring. There's a clear need for solutions that elevate the front-end experience without disrupting the app’s technical stability or delaying launch timelines. We need to identify UX solutions that deliver maximum front-end impact with minimal disruption to backend architecture.
5-Day UX Acceleration Plan for Packy
With Packy gearing up for a public launch, this 5-day UX Acceleration Plan is designed to rapidly identify and implement high-impact improvements to the app’s user experience—without disrupting its backend infrastructure. Drawing on beta tester insights, app walkthroughs, and collaborative workshops, the goal is to ensure that Packy's intelligent features are not just functional but also intuitive, discoverable, and delightful.
By focusing on lightweight yet effective design and content interventions, this sprint will help close the gap between Packy’s powerful AI engine and the user’s perception of its value. The result? A smarter, smoother, and more launch-ready experience that resonates with users from day one.
